Residential

This residential barn was renovated to allow more all year round use, for classical music concerts. The scheme won the Windsor & Maidenhead Architecture & Environment Award 1996.

The barn itself was overclad with new timber studwork, insulation and cladding, for which the roof eaves were extended. Internally, walls were limewashed, and underfloor heating was incorporated under a solid floor.

A new extension was built between midstry and main barn space. To match the  existing barn, this included new green oak framing as a partition wall, with wattle and daub infil to increase soundproofing between the cloakroom and main space.

As part of the project, a new septic tank was installed that has its outfall treated in a reed bed system.
