This timber shelter was designed by Zana Dean of Arc Design & Build. We took the design and worked up timber connection details etc. We pre-fabricated the structure in Shropshire and carried out on site work in school holidays, in 1996.
The structure forms a sheltered space for a whole class to work 'in the round'. It seems increasingly clear to schools that they need sheltered space for children to get out of the sun.
The structure has oak columns for durability; these had to be placed in the ground for the satisfaction of Building Control. Roof structure is formed with european larch poles, and the covering is of green oak planks bent into shape.
