PROJECT SUMMARY
Residential

this extension was a design and build project, built in 1998 by ourselves and various other Shrops. based AECB members.
After initial discussions about a possible conservatory, we worked with our clients to design a super-insulated family room, that would still be light and airy, as they wanted, but would have all year round use.
The 'spaced-stud' wall frame panels, plus the modified post and beam principle timber construction were made of locally grown larch, and were pre-fabricated off site, for shorter on site work. The walls and roof contain 225mm pumped cellulose insulation. Joinery is made of locally grown douglas fir. The roof is of second hand plain clay tiles, and the exterior walls are finished with woodwool slab and lime render, thus allowing the extension to sit easily with the painted brick walls of the existing house.
